Important Travel Information: M42 Weekend Closure (24–27 July 2026)
As part of ongoing HS2 construction works, sections of the M42 will be closed throughout the weekend, which may affect journeys to and from the NEC.
Closure Details
The following closures will be in place from 9:00pm on Friday 24 July until 5:00am on Monday 27 July 2026:
M42 Northbound: Junction 6 to Junction 9
M42 Southbound: Junction 7a to Junction 6
Travelling to the NEC:
Approaching via the M42 Northbound
Visitors travelling to the NEC should leave the M42 at Junction 6 as usual.
Please be aware that diversion routes for other traffic may cause congestion, so additional journey time is recommended.
Approaching via the M42 Southbound
Follow the signed diversion onto the M6 Southbound, exit at Junction 3, rejoin the M6 Northbound and continue to Junction 4, then follow signs to the NEC.
Alternatively, leave the M42 at Junction 9 and travel via the A446 Southbound.
Allow Extra Time
We expect increased traffic levels and delays throughout the closure period. Please allow extra time for your journey and check traffic updates before setting off where possible.
Leaving the NEC
Please note that it will not be possible to access the M42 via Junction 6 when leaving the NEC. Diversion routes will be clearly signed, and we ask visitors to follow the appropriate alternative routes.
